Admissions

Nursery

Children are usually admitted into nursery shortly after their third birthday, though there can be a waiting list so parents are recommended to put their child’s name down in good time. Mrs Saaiman, the Nursery Teacher, will contact parents when a place is available.  Please contact the school regarding Two Year Old Provision.

Main School

Children are admitted into full-time school in the September of the academic year when they will reach 5 years old. Nursery and Reception staff work closely together as the Foundation Stage, before the children are due to come into school; they will pay visits to their future classes to get used to the main school. Just before the children start school, you will be invited to an informal meeting as a group with the Reception teachers. Please come and ask any questions you may have. We are part of Extol Academy Trust and we follow the Middlesbrough Council admissions code and procedures. If you come into school we can give you the necessary admissions form or you can use the link to Middlesbrough Council website:

Please find attached a proposed reduction in PAN; this legislative overview details admission arrangements for Thorntree Academy for the year 2027/2028.

.

Thorntree Academy is engaging in consultations with its stakeholders to discuss a proposed reduction in its published admission number, aiming to decrease it to 30 for our reception class starting in September 2027; it is important that we consult with the admission authorities, governing boards, local authorities, and also with local primary schools and academies

This adjustment is crucial for achieving optimal conditions in meeting pupils' needs, serving the community, and utilising funding effectively.

Extol Academy, Thorntree Local Governing Body, the Chief Executive Officer, and the School's Head Teacher have collectively determined that reducing the published admission number is the best course of action to fulfil these goals.

If you have any enquiries to make regarding this proposal, please do not hesitate to contact us at thorntree@thorntreeacademy.org.uk or enquiries@extoltrust.co.uk.

Start of consultation: 15th December 2025

End of consultation: 26th January 2026
