DT Intent

STEM careers are an aspiration that the children of Thorntree Academy can have and DT is a route to that #FutureYou. Through the DT curriculum, children should be inspired to be engineers, designers, chefs and architects to enable them to create a range of structures, mechanisms, textiles, electrical systems and food products with a real life purpose. 

EYFS have various opportunities to foster a love of Design Technology at all times of the year. The teaching sequence for all units from Year 1 to Year 6 is based around 4 key principles:  Discuss, Design, Do & Decide.

- Discuss: look at real life products and problems to find out how innovations come to be

- Design: working to a brief to find a solution and plan so the product is functional

- Do: make the project combining skills & knowledge 

- Decide: evaluate the project
